British stars shine at Toronto Film Festival
In Love Punch, Emma Thompson and Pierce Brosnan play divorcees who find themselves embroiled in a pan-European caper of jewellery theft and mad chases, which may reignite the couple's romance.
Colin Firth and Jeremy Irvine join Nicole Kidman in The Railway Man, which will have its UK premiere at Toronto. The film tells the true story of Eric Lomax, a British army officer who suffered as a Japanese prisoner of war before, many years later, confronting his tormentor.
British talent Imogen Poots, Ruth Negga, Adrian Lester and Hayley Atwell star alongside André Benjamin, known as the musican André 3000, in All Is By My Side, about Jimi Hendrix's life either side of the pond in the mid-Sixties.
Kate Winslet, Keira Knightley and James Corden all make appearences in American films making a debut at Toronto. Winslet will star alongside Tobey Maguire in Labor Day, in which an escaped convict is taken in by a single mother and her teenage son.
Corden will appear with Knightley in Can a Song Save Your Life, a rom-com about musicians living in New York.
One Chance tells the story of British reality TV star Paul Potts, who found success as an opera singer after appearing on, and later winning, Britain's Got Talent. Corden stars as Potts in a cast including Julie Walters and Mackenzie Cook.
Long-awaited British mobster comedy Dom Hemingway will show for the first time at Toronto. Directed by Richard Shepherd, its motley cast includes Jude Law, Richard E Grant and Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke.
The IT Crowd comedian Richard Ayoade has written and directed his second film after 2011's Submarine, The Double. It will screen at Toronto and follows the split personalities of a man called Simon, starring Jessie Eisenberg and Mia Wasikoska.
Scarlett Johansson takes the lead in British direcot Jonathan Glazer's sci-fi film, Under the Skin, which is set in Scotland.
Finally, the other two major British films are The Invisible Woman and Philomena. Ralph Fiennes directs and plays the main role of Charles Dickens in The Invisible Woman, which portrays Dickens' relationship with his secret muse, played by Kristen Scott Thomas.
Philomena is based on the investigation of BBC journalist Martin Sixsmith into the son of Philomena Lee, who was given up for adoption in America despite being born out of wedlock in Ireland. Judi Dench plays Lee, while Steve Coogan will take the role of Sixsmith. Stephen Frears directs.
The Toronto Film Festival will run from 5-15 September
