Los Angeles (CNN) -- A van loaded with keyboards, guitars, amps and drums used by the 1980s band A Flock of Seagulls was stolen from a southern California hotel over the weekend, police said.

The group parked the van in front of a Downey, California, hotel after their Saturday night gig, according to their representative.

"Yes, it's all true," lead singer Mike Score told CNN. "The van had all our equipment -- synths, guitars, drums, electronics, clothing -- but most importantly the hard drives containing the files for my new album, which was just about ready to go."

Score placed the "quite conservative" value of $70,000 on the stolen hard drive that contained his solo album.

Score, a co-founder of the English New Wave group, is the only original member still touring.

Their biggest hit was "I Ran (So Far Away)" in 1982.

CNN's Jane Caffrey contributed to this report.
