BBC Four to show Foo Fighters documentary series 'Sonic Highways'

The eight-part HBO documentary series Sonic Highways follows Foo Fighters on a trip around the US as they record an ambitious new album to mark their 20th anniversary.

It's described by singer Dave Grohl as a love letter to the history of American music and creates a musical map of the US. Each of the eight tracks on the album is written and recorded in a different American location, heading to Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Seattle and Washington DC. Grohl and the band will visit each city's historical heritage locations and Grohl will also interview a clutch of famous musicians on their travels, including Kiss frontman Paul Stanley, Joe Walsh from The Eagles and Nancy Wilson from Heart.

In each city the band enter the studio to cut a new track for the album with an episode of the documentary dedicated to each of these cities. The episodes will culminate in a live performance of the new song.

BBC Four will be showing the first two episodes, beginning on Sunday 26 October, with the following four being made available only on the iPlayer. The series will then return to BBC Four for the final two episodes.
