Clients not wedded to Ayesha Vardag's big day

Asked if Miss Radmacher was likely to go, a close friend said: "No way."

Miss Radmacher hired Miss Vardag in a successful legal appeal against her ex-husband's attempt to gain a foothold on her wealth.

Another former client, who did not wish to be named, said: "No, I am not going to Ayesha's wedding, and wouldn't in any case ever want to go. I can't stand the woman.

"As for the wedding website, it just beggars belief that she is asking people to pay for her honeymoon when she is so wealthy."

Miss Vardag, who marries Stephen Bence, a former astrophysicist who is director of strategy at her law firm, is unabashed.

"Not every professional relationship ends up with an invitation to one's wedding," she told People. "The wedding is going to be a haven and escape from our professional lives. We are going to celebrate with beloved friends and family."

Miss Vardag said she was expecting approximately 300 guests – the maximum number that can fit in the choir of the cathedral.

'Usually I paint people in the street', says Una Stubbs

The annual art show, which opens to the public tomorrow, will feature – somewhere on its walls piled high with more than 1,250 artworks – a pair of watercolours of Sherlock actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman painted by their co-star, Una Stubbs.

"I would love to have gone to art school," said the British actress. "I've had two exhibitions and I've sold quite a lot, but I usually paint people in the street or in cafés."

Nicole's no-show must go on

Nicole Kidman could not attend an awards ceremony because of 'bronchitis'

Glamour magazine's annual Women of the Year awards always draw an A-list crowd. Last week, the ceremony, in London, was no exception, boasting appearances by Dame Helen Mirren, Samuel L Jackson, Naomi Campbell and Billie Piper, among others.

But one notable absentee was the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution award: Nicole Kidman.

Citing a severe case of bronchitis, the Moulin Rouge star underlined just how ill she was by filming her acceptance speech from bed in her pyjamas, next to a humidifier.

Host Graham Norton – who had also been forced to find a last-minute replacement for Kidman on his BBC One chat show – seemed less than convinced by her performance, making a barbed remark about the actress's "glamorous sickbed".

Was Norton right to be sceptical? The next day Kidman was photographed on the red carpet at an awards ceremony in Nashville, with her husband, the singer Keith Urban.

"She obviously has incredible powers of recovery," said one Glamour guest, mischievously.

Young blood helps revive Lib Dems

Andrew Hames with his parents Jo Swinson and Duncan Hames

In the wake of their abysmal local and European election results, the Liberal Democrats have a new secret weapon – and he wears an on-message yellow stripey babygrow.

Aged just six months, Andrew Lennox Marshal Hames is doing his bit to bolster the party.

Recently, young master Hames – the son of Jo Swinson, the equalities minister, and Duncan Hames, her Lib Dem MP husband – was deployed to charm bored journalists during a break in a three-hour post-mortem that followed the recent failed plot to oust leader Nick Clegg.

And last month, he was seen strapped to his father's chest in a nightclub, at the launch of the party's local election campaign at the Ministry of Sound in London.

Prince charmed by portrait of Belle

Prince offered to play a secret gig at last week's premiere of Belle

Ahead of its release on Friday, there's a buzz about the film Belle, which tells the story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the mixed-race daughter of an 18th-century naval captain and an African slave, who was immortalised in a 1779 portrait that depicted her with Lady Elizabeth Murray.

Another artist, Prince, was so taken with Belle's tale that he offered to play a secret gig for guests, including Bryan Ferry, at last week's West End premiere.

The artist formerly known as The Artist Formerly Known As Prince wore a T-shirt featuring the portrait of Dido Belle formerly attributed (incorrectly) to the German artist Johann Zoffany. We'll take that as a sign of a true fan…

Must be annoying for Jonathan Ive to make so much money for Apple but still not be able to spell his name without disabling their autocorrect.
