Netflix have released a trailer for the second series of their award-winning US political thriller House of Cards, which returns on February 14.
The made-for-Netflix TV show stars Oscar winner Kevin Spacey as scheming congressman Francis Underwood and Robin Wright as his ice-queen wife Claire, a ruthlessly ambitious Washington power couple.
Congressman Francis Underwood's rapid ascension to the heights of power means big changes for both him and his wife Claire, but his sudden rise creates powerful enemies and the increasing chance that his dark secrets will be exposed.
As the trailer opens, we see Underwood being sworn in as vice president and uttering in an aside to the camera: "One heartbeat away from the presidency and not a single vote cast in my name. Democracy is so overrated."
Netflix says the drama – based on a 1990 BBC series set in London – "slithers through the back halls of greed, sex, love and corruption in modern Washington DC."
